Information for private companies, especially small private companies, can be difficult to find. In addition to using the BYU resources available below which are most useful for large private companies, try the following strategies:
Look up the company in Secretary of State's business registry for the state. You can usually find out whether the business is active, when it was first registration, the primary business it engages in, its address, and the name of its registered agent.
Search for news articles or press releases. Use Google and Google News, local news websites, trade and industry journals, and news databases.
Locate the company's website, Facebook page, Twitter feed, or other social media.
Excellent source for business and financial data on major private corporations, including family owned, private equity owned, venture backed, and international unlisted companies. First-time users must create a username.
