Introduction to "FCIL"

The guides in this collection link to primary resources and websites for foreign, comparative and international law. Each of these is a "term of art" in the U.S. legal community.

  • From the perspective of U.S. legal institutions, Foreign Law refers to laws enacted by a sovereign state other than the United States.
  • International Laws are those enacted by supranational organizations (such as the UN or European Union) and by treaties between two or more sovereign states.
  • Comparative Law is the study of the similarities and differences between the laws of different legal systems (such as civil law and common law) or between two or more jurisdictions at all levels of governance.

International law resources are collected on the http://lawlibguides.byu.edu/fcil_international/ guide.

Please email fcil@law.byu.edu with any comments, or recommendations for resources that might be helpful to complete this project. Please note that only official legal resources and websites are included in this collection.
